In Memorium
I write this note with a heavy heart. Jim Ogg, whose story of a Guinness World Record attempt we featured in our current issue, passed away last week of cardiac arrest. We are incredibly saddened by this news, and our most sincere condolences are with his family at this time.
To say that we here at Edina Magazine were inspired by Ogg, would be a true understatement. When our writer Andy Greder pitched the story to me, I couldn’t wait to share his story of physical and mental perseverance in the magazine. Indeed, Ogg (a retired architect, former marine and marathoner) proved to be as spirited and fearless as we had anticipated. Holding the plank position is no small feat, as many fitness fiends will tell you. And Ogg would go on to do it for 7 minutes, 14 minutes, then 30 minutes. And, undaunted, Ogg up and held it for 50 minutes. As his wife Paula said in our article, “He answers to challenges.”
Not only were we impressed by his courage and strength, but in our conversations with Ogg, we learned that this local legend was just a downright nice fellow, and a truly great person. May we all continue to be inspired by his valor and answer to challenges.
