2007 Vina Tondonia by Lopez de Heredia

A wine pick for your next patio sit.

What a wild year so far! Hopefully you’ve been pulling corks on some of your favorite bottles during COVID-19. With the end of summer and its warm evenings, barbecue aroma and lots of backyard laughter with friends, let the wine times roll into September. For you Napa cab lovers, I’m recommending one of the oldest family bodegas in Rioja, Spain–Lopez de Heredia. With 143 years of winemaking experience, it’s like having a piece of history in each bottle. I recommend the 2007 Vina Tondonia (current vintage), a blend of mostly Tempranillo with notes of vanilla, vibrant red fruit and soft tannins. Put it in your fridge for a half hour or so to bring temp down a bit. Cheers!
