The Peterson Family has performed locally, nationally, and internationally for many years. After the passing of matriarch Jeanne Arland Peterson in 2013, her five children, Linda, Billy, Patty, Ricky, Paul Peterson and grandson Jason Peterson DeLaire collaborated with the University of Minnesota to establish the Peterson Family Scholarship in Jazz Studies.
The University of Minnesota describes this scholarship as follows:
“Created on behalf of Minnesota's First Family of Music, The Petersons, this scholarship supports the College of Liberal Arts undergraduate students studying music, with a specific focus on jazz music, who demonstrate financial need and academic merit.”
This scholarship and annual benefit concert is in recognition of the Peterson Family’s desire to continue their family’s legacy. Linda Peterson states, “Music is the universal language and you can play a huge part in keeping the music alive with your contribution to this very worthy cause. The Peterson Family and the future jazz musicians thank you from the bottom of their hearts.”
The Peterson Family has collectively performed with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie, Bob Dylan, Prince, Fleetwood Mac, Michael Bolton, Steve Miller Band, Ben Sidran, Donny Osmond, Kenny Loggins, Dave Koz, and more.
