Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is one of the most important celebrations in Hindu culture. It symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. Celebrated with family and friends, Diwali involves lighting oil lamps, decorating homes with colorful chalk designs called rangoli, enjoying festive meals and much more. Though rooted in Hindu tradition, Diwali is celebrated by people of various religions and cultures worldwide, including here in Edina. On November 10, Southdale Library came alive with vibrant colors, rich culture and a strong sense of community for the First Annual Diwali Celebration. The event was hosted by the Edina Asian American Alliance in collaboration with Edina High School’s South Asian Society and AAPI Student Union. More than 200 attendees enjoyed an afternoon filled with delightful treats like mango lassi, chai and samosas, along with arts and crafts, henna, a photo booth and festive activities for all ages. Relive the magic of this unforgettable event that brought people together in celebration and tradition.
