With the rapid success of Sloane’s Beauty Bar’s flagship location, a second location seemed like a no-brainer.
Erin Zosel, owner of Sloane’s Beauty Bar, often gets asked why she opened two salons six blocks away from each other. But with the rapid success of the flagship location near 50th and France with its striking black-and-white striped awning, a second location seemed like a no-brainer. So, up went another set of black-and-white awnings at the historic Durr Ltd. Building on 44th Ave.
“I would say I didn’t expect for it to grow that quickly, honestly,” Zosel says. “There were 11 of us starting and I had 15 chairs. The biggest hurdle was how fast it filled and how quickly I was turning away amazing hair stylists.”
It’s all in Zosel’s approach to the business. After 24 years as a stylist, Zosel wasn’t satisfied with the options available to independent contractors.
“Basically, I couldn’t find what I was looking for. I realized a lot of the hair stylists were struggling with the same thing, so I decided to create it. I took all the things that I ever wanted as a hair stylist and built it.”
Sloane’s isn’t just interested in catering to individual stylists. They’re also thoughtful about how each stylist can contribute to the team overall. “We went into it with a different mindset of finding the right people; like-minded hairdressers that were always growing and changing and being able to have their own business within our business,” Zosel says.
Part of that growth is the continuing education the stylists undertake at Sloane’s. With fashion fads changing at the tap of a screen or click of a phone camera, the hairstylists at Sloane’s stay up to date with all the latest trends and techniques through supplemental courses and guest instructors.
The result is a committed customer base that just voted Sloane’s as Best in Edina. And according to Zosel, with everyone at Sloane’s held to the same standard, any move is the right one. She says, “We’ll guide you in the right direction, making sure you find the style and stylist that will work best for you.”
