While helping lace up skates and getting her daughter’s team ready to take the ice at Braemar Arena, Laura Heinmiller paused to take in a quiet moment. “The Edina High School girls team has a mite team or two do a scrimmage during intermission,” Heinmiller says. “We were waiting for the period to end. I looked up and thought, ‘Oh, my gosh, look at them standing there watching the game and dreaming,’” she says. “It represented the purity of being a little kid and playing hockey with your friends … It captured what is beautiful about sports [and] what it is to be a young athlete.”
