It was an early spring morning in Mark Bergeron’s backyard when his bleeding heart plant caught his eye. “We don’t have a lot of flowering plants around the house … Our only bleeding heart plant really took off like we’d never seen it. Usually, the plant grows several of these hearts on the same string. So when I found a single, lonely heart, I felt it needed some love,” Bergeron says, adding that the lonely flower was symbolic. “There’s a general softness across the photo in terms of the lighting, colors and curves,” he says. “In my mind, softness is what our hearts and love personify.”
