Edina’s Community Clothing Swap is back for its fourth year, inviting residents and visitors alike to refresh their wardrobes while embracing sustainability. Set for April 24 at Braemar Arena’s Backyard Rink, the free event encourages attendees to swap gently used clothing, with no cost or donation required to participate.
Special collections this year include halloween costumes for humans and pets, used running shoes and bras. Non-perishable food items will also be collected for Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People (VEAP).
The goal of this program is to reduce waste and bring the community together. “Excessive clothing and textile consumption is not the culture of a healthy planet,” says Twila Singh, organics recycling coordinator for the City of Edina. “Reuse, repair and rethinking our choices is what cultivates the respect of our future children. This event is one of the most fun ways to participate in the change you wish to see.”
Interested in getting involved?
Clothing donations can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on April 22 and 23 at Braemar Arena’s Backyard Rink.
Volunteers are needed to help set up the event, collect donations, weigh bags, count attendance and clean up afterwards. All are welcome to volunteer, including accompanied minors, groups and teams. Volunteers must sign up by April 4.
There will also be reserved tables for community partners that are involved in reuse and waste reduction. Table spots are free, and accommodations for technology and special equipment are available. Reserve your table by April 4.
