Remembering the 20th anniversary of 9/11.

It’s hard to believe that two decades have passed since the tragic events of 9/11. Each year, many pause on September 11th to honor and remember lives lost. Now, as we approach the 20th anniversary, some local organizations are working to preserve the memory of Americans who lost their lives or worked to save lives on that fateful day.

For the past 20 years, a Minnesota 9/11 Tribute has memorialized victims of the 9/11 attacks and their families. This year planned events at nearby Lake Harriet include a walk with firefighters at 4 p.m. starting at the Lake Harriet Bandshell and continuing around the lake. Following the walk, there will be a tribute concert at the bandshell featuring the Army Band for Minnesota and Washington. With Americana tunes that the whole family can appreciate, this is a great opportunity to show respect and honor the memories of fellow Americans.

In another neighboring community, the Wayzata Conservancy in partnership with the City of Wayzata is also planning to introduce a MN 20th Anniversary 9.11 Memorial on the shores of Lake Minnetonka in downtown Wayzata. A permanent fixture will preserve the legacy of lives lost nearly 20 years ago, an incredible symbol of the strength of our nation and the resilience of the community. There will be a memorial event in Birch Grove in the Plaza Park in downtown Wayzata where the memorial will be placed on the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
