The Edina nonprofit is taking over The Rooftop Bar for a night of cocktails, community and couture.
Dads of Down syndrome (DODs) is taking center stage at its fall fundraising event, Raise the Roof, from 5–8 p.m. on September 19. Hosted at NOLO’s The Rooftop Bar in the North Loop, the night will feature a catwalk with men’s, women’s and children’s looks from local businesses including Jaxen Grey, Lambchops, Pacifier and SIX MN. Members of the group and their children will be walking in the show.
“We built The Rooftop Bar for unforgettable moments, and few things feel bigger than elevating local boutiques while elevating a cause like DODs,” says Brett Johnson, DODs board member and co‑owner of The Rooftop Bar. “Expect killer views, killer looks, great food and drinks from NOLO’s Kitchen, and all kinds of feel‑good energy.”

DODs was created by Edina resident Jacob Esser in February 2024 as a way to enable fathers of children with Down syndrome to learn, share experiences and find solidarity in their communities. “Watching dads become more empowered and connected within the Down syndrome community has been incredible to be a part of,” Esser says. “Every toast raised and every outfit applauded at this event fuels our ability to connect fathers who, like I did, crave a space to celebrate wins, tackle challenges and champion our amazing kids together.”
DODs hosts monthly meetings and large educational events to empower both the dads and kids. The money raised from the fundraiser will grow the size and reach of DODs’ events and allow it to spread its message of advocacy and strength. Members of the group and their children will be walking in the show.
