The Makings of a Mother’s Day Bouquet

Picking Flowers for Mom by William Webb

A boy’s simple act of love is a picture perfect snapshot of youthful innocence.

During an evening family walk through Fred Richards Park, four-year-old Aiden Webb-Kay stopped to pick a bouquet of bright yellow “flowers” for his mom, Corinne Webb-Kay. To Aiden, dandelions weren’t weeds—they were beautiful blooms meant for someone special. “I love the innocence and spirit of youth in this photo,” says Aiden’s grandfather and amateur wildlife photographer, William Webb.

The former Edina High School band director lives a few doors down from his daughter and her family. They often go for evening walks together through the park. This photo was taken just four days before Mother’s Day last May. “The evening setting sun was casting such a gorgeous light. The combination of the bike shadow with the warm glow on the flowers and Aiden’s face and just the colors, it was one of those moments,” he says. Webb usually takes photos with his Canon camera, but didn’t have it on him at the time. “I immediately grabbed my phone and said, ‘I gotta take this. It’s just too nice.’”

Our Images of Edina photo contest is open to submissions this May. Find guidelines and the submission link here.
