MacPhail Spotlight Series: From the Balkans to the Holy Land

This eclectic concert will showcase the virtuosity of Paul Schoenfield’s Klezmer-inspired trio, the transcendent Fantasy on a Yiddish Song by David Evan Thomas, old Ukrainian folk tunes passed on through generations, and the beloved Hungarian Dances by Brahms.

Attendees will be joined by Impossible Salt, an imaginative and kinetic theater group specializing in folk stories and mythology. Actors will perform the Hungarian Dances with their exotic gypsy flair.

Peter and the Wolf

December 1–2 Friends of the Minnesota Orchestra transform the atrium, lobby and mezzanine of Orchestra Hall into a hub of eight to nine activity stations where kids and parents can partake in arts and crafts and learn about this year’s production of Peter and the Wolf, given life and humor on stage by prop-assisted actors, while also trying out the instruments they’ll soon be hearing—no extra charge. Autism and Poetry

Poet and teacher Chris Martin will speak on how new research shows that the autistic brain is hardwired for metaphor and imagery, meaning children and adults with autism may be natural poets.  He will lead the audience in some basic writing exercises that can help them use poetry in every part of their lives.  Sponsored by the Edina Reads Committe.  The program will be in the Fireside Room of the Edina Senior Cente below the Edina Library.  Read more about Autism and Poetry

Pillsbury House Theatre’s Late Nite Series

November 12 and 19 For its two remaining Saturdays in November, this series features several up-and-coming artists from Minnesota and New York who show off their stuff at Pillsbury House Theatre in South Minneapolis. Now in its 19th year, the series features different artists and performers each night. This year, the event will include a tribute to former participant and spoken word artists Kirk Washington, who died in a car accident last year. Wine & Canvas Wednesday

Please join us for our Wine & Canvas Wednesday at Braemar Golf Course. On Wine & Canvas Wednesday you find yourself creating contemporary and modern master pieces. Each session is open to artists of all experience levels, whether it is your first time picking up a brush or you're perfecting your strokes for the next time you are asked to freehand a mural.
