David Murphy began to take photography seriously during a safari in Africa 20 years ago. This self-taught amateur, who’s completed online coursework through KelbyOne and who regularly reads photography books and magazines, has had several of his photos published. This photograph titled “Wheeee!” was the winner of the Raising Families category in the 2015 Images of Edina photo contest and has also appeared in our 2016 Best of Edina issue.
Becky Parkin once lived two blocks from Centennial Lakes Park in Edina and would often walk around the park with her Canon Rebel T2i camera in hand. Parkin is an amateur photographer who enjoys capturing enchanting nature scenes. During one of her walks last May, Parkin noticed a group of onlookers enjoying the adventures of a recently hatched brood of ducklings.
“It’s kind of a funny story,” says Julie Prior-Miller about the origins of her Images of Edina award-winning photo. Prior-Miller is a communications specialist for Edina Public Schools and was taking pictures of a visit by children’s book author and illustrator Nancy Carlson to Normandale Elementary. Prior-Miller was especially interested in the event because Carlson had once visited her own elementary classroom.
